Material description: It has 6 pairs of fabrics with different textures. Child enhances his tactile sense, he learns to work with touch fabrics and pair them. This helps the child's discrimination between different fabrics. Child understands his environment better and grows in confidence and self esteem. How to use: This activity starts with sensitizing fingers with lukewarm water. It is also essential to wear a blindfold so as to achieve the purpose. Show the child how to feel the fabric in the box with 3 dominant fingers thumb up and 2 finger down and rotate the thumb to feel it, invite the child to try. Invite the child to place the fabrics on the table in random order with all 5 fingers of both the hands. Now wear the blindfold and take the extreme left fabric and bring it to the center of the table. Feel it in the same manner as shown before at the right bottom corner of the fabric and inter change the hands and start feeling it from left hand. Keep feeling with left hand and start looking out for its pair from the left side with right hand. Keep feeling each fabric till you find the correct pair. Bring it next to the isolated fabric and reconfirm with both hands and then with right hand again. Put one fabric on the other and place it to the top left corner of the table. Repeat the same for the rest and find all the pairs in the same manner and place one below the other. Once all are done remove the blindfold, lift each paired fabric with right hand 3 dominant fingers at the right bottom corner so as to confirm visually if the pairs are correctly matched. Pre and post related activities: Child atleast needs one sense to rely upon in certain situations such as during power cut, when it is dark. Child’s tactile senses geared up in such a situation. Child is able to identify objects and people through touch and feel, but in such situations child is not aware of the skill but only concentrates upon the security.
